When you first hear the word 'purity', what does come up into your mind? The English Dictionary may stated as a condition of being undiluted or unmixed with extraneous material; the state of being unsullied by sin or moral wrong. It short, it is about being pure in all areas of your life. I am not talking about being perfect. For I do realize that no one can able to reach perfection. But I believe that every effort to pursue the high standard of purity will bring our lives into higher level of satisfaction that most people do not experience. It is about being pure in thoughts, words, and deeds.Would not it be great to have a relationship with people who maintain high integrity in every aspect of their lives? Their conducts will be in conformity with their sets of beliefs. They will always do what they say. What they show to the world is who they truly are when there is no one's watching. I think that would make a very reliable relationship where you can put your set your hearts rest on it peacefully. This principal, too, has the same significance in the area of sexual purity. Yes, sexual purity.
There are not many people who are able to admit their strugglings in the area of sexual purity. At one side, we are bombarded with medias, videos, movies, advertisement which promote so much lower standard of sexual purity. Many views sex as a casual activity outside marriage. The value of "keeping yourself pure until marriage" has been degraded to the lowest point no one can imagine. Women have been treated as the object of lust rather than a subject to be loved and cherished for a life time. Men themselves are always struggling between the drives of their hormones and their own morality. Yes, on another side, we probably have heard that God forbid strictly sexual immorality. But most of human nature do not like to be conrolled by sets of rules, aren't they? So in the end, the majority has chosen to choose their own way regarding their knowing of what supposed to be right. As a result, you may often see a relationship where is filled with suspicion, distrust, affairs, unfaithfulness, violence, etc. To call it short ... broken relationship. Broken marriage. Broken home.
The best pathway to resolve this problem is to admit that you do have the problem of it on the first hand. Confess it with all your heart and walk on the opposite direction of a change.
I confess my iniquity, I am troubled by my sin.
1 John 1:19
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness
A confession is the beginning of restoration. Once we admit that we do have problem with it, we can openly seek a way to deal with it.
The next step to be done is to abandon the old ways we live, and begin to walk in purity with God. Yes, it takes God to make you able to do so. When we realize that we are merely sinners ... in a great need of His grace, we are one step closer to restoration.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast.
The mystery of Jesus Christ is that through death He brings life.
I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.
It is trough our death to our ego and our old ways to live God can bring you truly a life that you can enjoyed for now and then.
After knowing this truth, what then can we do to truly walk in purity?
Purity is more about what is going inside rather than your outside. For the outside always come from the inside. Your deeds are the products of your heart and thought. Therefore,
to walk in purity, we need to change our heart and thought. The first thing that we need to know is that purity does not merely talk about deeds, it is actually a matter of heart. What you desire. If we desire purity just like a bee craves for honey, we will intentionally pursue it. So there must be a consistent of willingness to strive forward toward purity.
The strongest force to defeat impurity is love. For impurity only think about ourselves, while love is about giving to others and set others as higher priority than ourselves. Before you commit impure deeds, ask yourself deeply, "Is it really doing good for the other partner? Is it really honoring God?" You see, I will not mention a list of do's and don'ts. For I believe that if you are able to discern what glorifies God and what's not, you can honestly answer what you must and must not do. A clear conscience is a great weapon against your own flesh rather than sets of instruction. So again, ask yourself deeply, "How far are you willing to honor God?" There must be a sacrifice in order to honor Him, you know. The sacrifice of your immediate desire that feels so bad to be satisfied. A mature person knows how to delay momentary gratification in order to
get long term pleasure. Hold on. Be mature. It will do you a favor for your own future :)
We must realize that when we give in to every sexual temptation (in many forms), we are ruining our future relationship with our spouse. Imagine this.. if we cannot control our desire now, what makes us think that we can control this desire later on on marriage? If we can do sinful things to our 'beloved' one outside marriage, what makes us think that we cannot do sinful things to other person outside marriage? When sin enters, there will always be conseqences that we reap. There are seeds of doubts, fears, suspicions that will poison our relationship. For what is love without trust?
This struggling can apply to either men or women. For men, I have to say that you need to
watch out for your eyes and your thoughts. Bounce your eye balls everytime it 'accidentally' sees something that arouse your desire. Admit that you may be weak after seeing it. So bounce away your sight from it. David, a great man of God, fell into adultery when He gave the long second look on woman who took a bath. You cannot control the first look of what you see. But you always have the choice to continue seeing it or turn away your sight:) Be wise. Whenever your thought leads you to sexual thing, do something else. Don't let your hands idle. Be busy for things that glorfy God. Serving will be a great defense. I find that person who dedicates their time a lot to serve others will find no time to think impure things. Do not give Devil a foothold. Ever.
them on and consider their opinions. Be wise too :) Remember that walking in purity involving sacrificing our ego. If dressing like this make my fellow men to struggle with impure thoughts, why should I do that? On the other hand, avoid romance fantasy too. We want to have authentic love relationship with our God and future spouse. Do not let your fantasy ruin the real relationship in the future. The same thing here... keep serving the Lord with all your might. That will make your beauty shines more like a rare diamond. A precious gift to the King of all Kings and to your future eartly prince.
Last but not least, the Bible clearly teaches us to "flee" from every temptation. Flee from every tempting situations. Do not dwell any longer into it. Just RUN away from it!
2 Timothy 2:22
Flee the desires of your youth and pursue rigtheousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Flee and redirect your energy to pursue Godly things. The best defense is the best offense. Attack the impure desires with pursue your purpose of life to serve others and be a good witness of the Lord. Love one another deeply. You would also need a companion of
friends who share same intention with you. Go to look for them. You cannot fight this alone.
The purity is like a precious pearl on the deep sea. Those who wants to pursue it must go a long distance with its obstacles and struglings too. But set your minds on above, on the price, on the pearl. Discpline yourself. You will do a great favor for your future marriage, family, and society. It's enough to see broken home around. You can be a change in this situation. For you are a Prince and a Princess of King of all Kings. We don't live as the world lives, but as the Kingdom lives. Have a long-run to pursue purity! Never give up!
